Construction Dispute Resolution and Expert Witness Services in Alberta and British Columbia
When a construction project stalls over money, scope, or schedule, the answers are usually found in the numbers. Quantity Surveying Services International (QSSi) is a team of certified Professional Quantity Surveyors (PQS) acting as construction cost consultants for owners, contractors, developers, lenders, and legal counsel. We provide independent cost analysis, dispute support, and expert opinions across Alberta and British Columbia.
Some people dream of success. We help make it happen. Whether you want to settle a disagreement before it grows or are preparing for litigation, we help you establish what was built, what it was worth, and what it should have cost.

ABOUT US
BRIEF INTRODUCTION
KNOWLEDGABLE & EXPERIENCED
We often work with first-time builders; can assist with setting up new projects, and re-tendering problematic ones - and are well known for being contract specialists.
An honest and hard-working quantity surveying firm headquartered in Calgary, Alberta; with our direct approach, we assist our clients to mitigate their risks and help assure success in all their projects. From Conceptual Estimating, to Mortgage Monitoring, Cost Planning, Project Financing, Insurance Appraisals and Legal Case Assistance, we offer our clients the full PQS service.
Types of Construction Disputes We Support
Every project is different, but the disagreements we are asked to help with tend to fall into familiar categories:
-
Payment disputes: disagreement over what has been earned, invoiced, or withheld
-
Change orders and extras: pricing and scope disagreements on work added or altered during construction
-
Incomplete or deficient work: the cost to finish, correct, or replace work that does not meet the contract
-
Delay and disruption claims: the cost impact of schedule changes
-
Contract termination: valuing completed work and the cost to complete when a contractor is removed or walks off
-
Insurance assessments and disputes: assessing the cost of loss or damage and the reasonableness of claim amounts
-
Lender and owner disagreements: progress, draws, and the value of work completed to date
If your situation does not fit neatly into one of these, call us. Many disputes involve several of these issues at once.
Construction Disputes in Alberta
From our headquarters in Calgary and our Edmonton office, we support parties involved in construction disputes across Alberta. We often work with first-time builders as well as experienced contractors, and we are known as contract specialists. That means we look at the agreement itself, not only the invoices, when assessing what is owed and why.
Our direct approach helps clients understand where they stand early on, so they can make informed decisions about negotiation, mediation, or formal proceedings.
Construction Dispute Resolution in British Columbia
Our Vancouver office serves clients with construction disputes in British Columbia. We provide the same independent cost analysis and reporting to BC owners, contractors, and legal teams, and we can step in at any stage, from an early disagreement through formal proceedings.

Particularly good at developing the team, strategic planning and cost control
Legal Case Support and Expert Witness Opinions

SUPPORT FOR COUNSEL
Lawyers need cost evidence that is organized, accurate, and understandable to people outside the industry. QSSi provides legal case support by analyzing project records, quantifying claims, and helping counsel understand the cost issues in a file before positions are set. Clear numbers make it easier to evaluate a claim, respond to one, and decide whether to settle or proceed.

EXPERT WITNESS LITIGATION IN ALBERTA
Our PQS professionals prepare independent expert opinions on construction costs and the value of work. For expert witness litigation in Alberta, our focus is on opinions that are objective, clearly reasoned, and grounded in the project record, so they can withstand scrutiny.
QSSi provides quantity surveying and cost opinions. We work alongside your legal counsel and do not provide legal advice.

VALUE OF WORK IN PLACE ASSESSMENTS
A Value of Work In Place (VOWIP) assessment establishes the value of the work physically completed on a project as of a specific date. It is a common reference point when parties disagree about progress payments, loan draws, project handover, or what remains to be paid or completed.
Our quantity surveyors inspect the site, compare what has been built against the drawings, specifications, and contract, and report on the value of the work in place. Because the assessment is independent, it gives owners, contractors, lenders, and counsel a shared factual basis for their next decision.
How We Work
Every matter is different, but our process is consistent.
-
Initial conversation. You tell us about the project, the issues in dispute, and your goals. We tell you honestly whether and how we can help.
-
Document review. We collect and review the contract, drawings, specifications, change orders, payment records, correspondence, and any reports already prepared.
-
Site review. Where needed, we inspect the work in person to measure and assess what has been built and its condition.
-
Analysis. We price and quantify the issues in dispute using recognized quantity surveying methods.
-
Reporting. You receive a clear, well-organized report. Where required, we prepare it in a form suitable for expert evidence.
-
Ongoing support. We are available to answer questions, respond to the other side’s analysis, and support negotiation, mediation, or hearings as your matter progresses.
